Last Week Tonight: Police Accountability

‘Black Lives Matter’ has been a movement that has was in the news a lot in the past year and a half. Of all protests, demonstrations, and outcry, police accountability is a running demand from the movement. John Oliver dissects cases within the United States where there has been issues with transparency of information and following procedural steps when addressing holding police accountable for ANY issues that might occur.

As Oliver initially states, there is no doubt that anyone risking their lives everyday to protect citizens isn’t honourable. However, I do believe that spotlighting issues showcasing the lack of effective checks and balances of power in regards to disciplining police action is important. And a push for accountability, especially when it comes to life-threatening situations is important.
